Integrity in Family and Friendship

How does Integrity Impact our Family and Friendships?

“Raising children is more and more puzzling for man parents because we’ve lost a lot of our old-fashioned convictions about the kind of morals, ambitions, and character we want them to have.”

– Doctor Spock

Family and Raising Children

Too often we allow outside influences to take precedence over our family life. We are uncertain and worried about what kind of world awaits our children when they become adults.

The pace of social change is almost overwhelming. We can barely keep up with the latest dangers and opportunities for our children’s well-being: drugs, violence, the information superhighway. We can only sow the seeds to give them the opportunity to have integrity. Children grow up to be individuals, to have their own wants and desires.

When is Friendship a Friendship?

When is Friendship a Friendship?

A handful of lifetime friends is a true blessing.

You want to be sure that you can trust the people that you are friends. Can they keep the secrets you choose to share with them? If you want to know if someone is a loyal friend, see if they make comments that encourage you. Pay attention to what they say, what they do and ultimately how they make you feel. This will help you decide if your friend is in the friendship for all the right reasons.

The Importance of Role Models

True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would like to have, and those who have affected us in a way that makes us want to be better people. They help us to advocate for ourselves and take a leadership position on the issues that we believe in.

People who look up to you emulate the things you do and say, including friends and family. To be a good role model, it is important that you are conscious of your own actions so that you can portray the right image for others to see and follow. We often don’t recognize true role models until we have noticed our own personal growth and progress.

Many children look up to their parents, teachers, police, firefighters and professional athletes and copy behaviors that they want to identify with. We have seen the negative impact that people like Lance Armstrong, A-Rod and Charlie Sheen and how they let down their greatest followers because of drugs, bad judgement or poor choices. They destroyed the very reputations that they once had and disappointed their fans.

People like Zig Zigler, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi have made a positive impression for the betterment of all.

“It’s amazing what happens when you recognize your good qualities, accept responsibility for your future, and take positive action to make the future even brighter.”

– Zig Zigler
